How to create an educational escape room?
Our goal was to realize a PHYSICAL ESCAPE ROOM GAME, based on real stories shared between native youth and youth with migrant background: we collected their stories during the WORLD STORYTELLING CAFES.
The game promote the EU values, inter-cultural competences, as well as, language learning of the hosting country.
Our escape room game attempts to simulate the arduous journey that immigrants often face to reach Europe.
The game consists of various rooms or corners, with stories of migration, each of which features a series of challenges, setbacks and riddles to be solved by the players.
Upon solving these, players access clues that will help them to guess which country was the final destination of the migrants
describing their journey, while understanding the implications of starting a new life in a new country.
GENERAL INFORMATION
The game is divided into 5 parts which, depending on the availability
of the space in which the escape room will be set up; it can be housed in 5 rooms or 5 corners and a central space within the room.
The five spaces each present games and riddles to be solved in order
to access the next step eventually to complete the game.
The five spaces:
Corner/room 1: The departure
Corner/room 2: The customs clearance
Corner/room 3: New cultures
Corner/room 4: The employment
Corner/room 5: The community
*Masters are the figures who supervise the game: they know the solutions and the working mechanisms. They can help the players
with suggestions if necessary or if the game is too difficult for some.
